Anime Tutorial Part 1- The Face by Animaker131 Anime Tutorial Part 1- The Face by Animaker131
My first official tutorial! Well... second if you count a journal tutorial I did forever ago. CX It was kind of hard to come up with at first since I didn't know where to start, but once I got going it started flowing together. I guess the hardest part about it is figuring out exactly what I'm doing and how to explain it. lol Doing is one thing. Describing it for someone else so it makes sense? Whole different animal. XD

Anyways, I hope you find it helpful. I think I'm going to finish a couple more pages of my new doujinshi now. I can't wait to upload it for you guys! You're gonna love it. ^v^

Edit: I just realized after reading some comments on my tutorial that posting this as a DRAWING tutorial was misleading since it is actually an ANIME style drawing tutorial. My bad. ^^; I've changed the title so hopefully there won't be anymore confusion.

Don't give up on yourself! It's when you decide to keep going and enjoy what you draw for what it is that you start improving. :) keep it up!

Really impressive and a really good help. Thank you for that. :)
Still, I would like to ask something: I'm a really bad drawer. Would you say, it's better to draw in the lines, which help to see, if the eyes and ears are in the right position or is that something more imaginable?

Thanks! As for your question, I say you should draw whatever guide lines you need if they make it easier for you to see the proportions. :) I use to draw the lines that helped me line up the nose, eyes and ears, but after I drew the face a few times it got to where I could eyeball it without the guidelines.

Sorry, but this isn't very useful at all. It's just a "how to copy me who copied someone else who probably knew how to draw"-guide. Learn the basics first, then figure out ways you can stylize it. Once you know what an actual ear looks like, drawing an ear in anime style will be a piece of cake.

You know, constructive criticism is one thing, but insulting my knowledge as an artist is down right low. I know I'm not very good at making tutorials, but I do know I've put countless hours and sweat into "learning the basics" and understanding my craft, so I am no novice. I suggest you actually look at someone's gallery before you make such insinuations.

I have looked at your gallery. And I didn't mean it as an insult. That you're trying to learn the basics is good. And you should keep doing that. Buy you're not good enough to make tutorials yet. Keep practicing, and you'll get there. ;) The reason I think this tutorial is particularily bad is because it isn't focusing on anything important. It's just teaching people how to copy a style that you yourself have allready copied from someone else. It's like copying a video tape over and over. For each copy the quality will get worse, and all you'll get is a poorer version of the one that came before it.

Right... 'cos calling you out on your douchebaggery without even once mentioning anything to do with the artist you're being a douchebag to completely constitutes "defending" them into absurdity. You're so clever, the way you make no sense at all.

I don't care who you make these kinds of bullcrap comments to, I think you should get called out for them anywhere and everywhere you do it. There's no "rules" in art - and if there were, YOU would not be tasked with enforcing them. Hope that helps.

I'm not enforcing anything. I'm just giving advice. Perhaps I was a bit grumpy. In that case I apologize. But it doesn't make what I'm saying any less true.

Excuse me, but Animaker's style is the most unique I've seen. When I find one of her pictures on Fanpop or another similar website, I can immediately recognize her style before I see her signature, even if it's a picture I haven't seen before.

Now by this I don't mean to be insulting or anything, but your gallery is full of realistic pictures. That's not a bad thing, but you draw what you see in real life. There are many, many artists who do this. You probably have taken lots of time perfecting this style, but since Animaker's style is so unique, she had to figure it out all on her own. Maybe she used some "how to draw" books when she was a beginner, but no books I know of show this style, and I'll be darned if you can find a book or deviant who shares her style too.

So the only reason I can think you're posting this is out of jealousy.

"Excuse me, but Animaker's style is the most unique I've seen."

You lost me there...

"So the only reason I can think you're posting this is out of jealousy."

And there.

And believe it or not I'm just trying to be helpful. If that help isn't wanted then I guess I'm wasting my time. You're obviously pretty young, and to you everything anime is the shit. And that's fine. But sooner or later, perhaps when you're older, you'll realize there's a lot more to art than just copying big sparkly eyes.

And I'm not advocating realism either. However knowing how to draw realistically, at least to some extent, is of great importance if you want to be a descent cartoonist. Most of your favorite manga artists probably do a lot of studies from life. What my own art looks like has nothing to do with it.

I think you're underestimating me. I know a lot about drawing anime and manga, even though I'm young. I know every artist has their own unique style, from my drawing friends to professionals like Animaker and Mrs. Takahashi. I don't copy others' style, I make my own. I do my own version of anime eyes, different from any anime I've ever seen or manga I've ever read. And yes, sometimes I do draw realistically. I know a lot about anatomy of the human body and things in the real world. And I meant Animaker's style is unique in terms of anime. There are many, many anime artists in the world, but no one is quite the same as her.

i kinda agree, the drawings aren't good (and i'm quite gentle) but even if the drawings aren't good, the worst of it is that most of it is wrong.
